Alzheimer’s vaccine significantly improves memory and is highly safe

World’s First!! Korea has successfully developed an Alzheimer’s vaccine. It prevents Alzheimer’s disease and also significantly improves memory. It is highly safe.

Alzheimer’s vaccine offers new hope for seniors around the world!

Korean research team develops vaccine to prevent and treat Alzheimer’s all in one
On June 12, Gyeongsang National University (경상국립대학교 – Kyungsangguknibdaehakyo) announced a major breakthrough in the medical science field. The research team (연구팀 – Yeongu Team) led by Professor Kim Myung-ok (김명옥 교수 – Kim Myung-ok Kyosoo) from the Department of Biological Sciences and Applied Biological Sciences has developed a “new generation vaccine” (백신 – baeksin) that can be used for both prevention (예방 – yebang) and treatment (치료 – shiryo) of Alzheimer’s disease (알츠하이머병 – alshuhai-myeongbyeong). This is the first time in the world.

Behind the scientific success of the Alzheimer’s vaccine

The heart of this Alzheimer’s vaccine is to select only “parts” of the protein (단백질 – danbaekgil) called amyloid beta (Aβ), which is the main cause of Alzheimer’s disease. The research team selected only the part that does not cause side effects (부작용 – bujakyeong) and mixed it with two special proteins, OVA and KLH, to increase the immune efficacy (면역 효과 – myonyeok hyogwa). When the vaccine was tested (실험 – shirom) on experimental animals (동물 – dongmul), it was found to have the ability to significantly reduce inflammation in the brain (염증 – yeomjung / 뇌 – no), helping to protect synapses (시냅스 – shinapseu), which are the connections between nerve cells. And most importantly, it clearly restores the deteriorating memory (기억력 – kiokryeok).

How is the Alzheimer’s vaccine different from previous medications?

Current Alzheimer’s drugs have several limitations: they require repeated use, are expensive, and pose a risk of affecting the brain’s blood vessels, the most delicate and complex organ in humans. However, the vaccine developed by Professor Kim’s team not only has a higher safety profile (안정성 – Anjeongseong), but has also been shown to be a new “effective” treatment approach, both in terms of prevention and restoration of brain function (회복 – Hwaebok).

Learn more about Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common degenerative brain disease in the elderly, accounting for 70~80% of all dementia cases. Patients will slowly start with forgetfulness, loss of language skills (언어 – eon-eo), lack of planning ability (집행 기능 – chip-haeng-kee-neung), and show behavioral changes (성격 변화 – seong-kyok-pyeon-hwa).

Remarkable Alzheimer’s vaccine trial results

In animal studies, mice given the vaccine were able to recover their learning and memory abilities to near-normal levels, and also showed a reduction in neuroinflammation and the restoration of functioning synapses.

Confirmed by world-class journals

The results of this research were published (게재 – Kaejae) on June 8 in the world-class academic journal “Brain, Behavior, and Immunity”, which is considered a leading journal of academic value (학술 가치 – Haksul Gachi). In addition, the research team has also registered a patent (특허등록 – Teukhoe Deungnok) to systematically prepare for the commercial production of this vaccine (상용화 – Sang Yonghwa).

Future plans and global cooperation

In the future, Professor Kim plans to establish a “Global Alzheimer’s Research Center” as a center for brain technology development, and at the same time, he is conducting international cooperation with Maastricht University in the Netherlands to jointly push this technology into the global market.

Commitment from researchers

Professor Kim Myung-ok said, “The vaccine we developed has an important advantage (장점 – jangjeom) that it can be used to prevent diseases before they occur, and at the same time, it can be used to slow down brain degeneration and restore brain function that has already deteriorated. It is a turning point for the care of the elderly worldwide.”

Alzheimer’s vaccine Summary

A research team from Gyeongsang National University in South Korea, led by Prof. Kim Myung-ok, has developed a prototype vaccine that can both prevent and treat Alzheimer’s disease for the first time in the world. It uses parts of the amyloid beta protein together with an immune-stimulating protein. The vaccine was found to reduce inflammation in the brain, restore memory, and connect nerve cells in experimental animals.

The research has been published in a world-class academic journal and is preparing for commercialization, along with establishing an international research center in collaboration with the Netherlands in the future.
